I had the pleasure of getting to be at NAB this year, and I spent a lot of time in the SCS Booth. It was interesting to me that a lot of people (a lot more than I had suspected there would be) came to the sony creative software booth asking about 3D workflows. They had heard that Vegas was able to handle 3D content natively, and able to support more than most folks for a very low cost relative to other tools out there.
I also managed to watch the final cut pro release info as much as I could, and was talking to someone who was in Final Cut and looking for 3D that was checking into Vegas. I asked them if they had seen the presentation video of Final Cut's new interface and workflow, and they hadn't. So I let them know that basically, once they get used to the new version of Final Cut Pro when it comes out, they will have a very easy transition to Vegas because Final Cut basically adopted a lot of the Vegas workflows in this new version.
Their presentations were full many times, and they were finally part of the big Sony booths this year, instead of in a separate area.
I had a chance to check out some other stuff at the show too, the NX-FS100 full frame 35mm sensor AVCHD with HDMI out that will street at around $5K w/o lens was a very promising offering from Sony, no doubt about it. I've also got my eye on a new Canon camcorder called the XF100 which I checked out that does 4:2:2 50Mbps MXF for $3K street. it's a smaller formfactor (bigger than the Sony MC50, but smaller than the NX5)
Go Pro had a wicked nice booth, and was of course as hopping as ever.
Spot and Ray Schlogel's VASST DVD on HDSLR filmmaking seemed to be a pretty big hit, there were just a handful left on the shelves when I was checking out the bookstore and I remember seeing some big stacks at the start.
Last but most certainly not least, the Sony party was great again this year. I hit a couple of other parties up and they were just such flops in comparison.
On a side note, the 10D release being shown at the Sony Creative Software booth, seems to be the only solution out there (apart from blu-print) that will be able to push a 3D blu-ray off the timeline so you can do something other than a file based delivery for 3D content now ( can't say for sure that there are absolutely no others, but it seemed that way from the show ).
If you didn't make it to NAB, it was a good one, if you did, Hope you enjoyed yourselves!
