Hey Steve, Me first. I was thinking that same thing. You might have the same use as mine though with your 02R as I have with my 03D. The user definable buttons on the Yamaha mixers will allow you to send out midi MMC messages, which Vegas doesn't recognize. I would love to have these messages converted to a midi CC message, so that I can assign a button to the automation on/off toggle switch. Right now, there's no buttons on the 03D that send out midi CC message, except for the master fader ON/OFF button, and well....that's used for monitoring purposes. Right now, I've been working on bribing Peter to have Vegas recognize midi MMC messages, but I think my breasts aren't large enough for his tastes. :-)
Are you using one of the midi modes on your 03d Red? If I don't use a mode, my 02r pumps out sys excl messages for almost every single button, knob, fader on the board, not just the few in the midi modes. I'm playing with midi translator but having very limmitted success. My biggest issue is trying to convert the fader messages most syg, least syg messages into a cc message that vegas can work with. But I'm a midi code virgin messing about in the dark, sort of hit or miss.

Yes, you need to go into one of the midi modes. Hit the "midi remote" button on your 02R. This will put the 02R faders into a controler operation. Go into the setup page by hitting the midi remote button. Within that setup page, you select which configuration you want to use. You can set up to 4 different configurations to select between, what messages will be sent when moving the faders. I found the "General Midi" selection to be the most useful. So then you need to hit the midi remote button until the General midi tab is showing on the screen, which should then give you software pan and send controls for each fader. So now in this state, when you move the faders or move the Pan controls the 02R will send out midi CC messages, which you can have Vegas learn using the generic controler driver under the hardware remote controler section.
If you want me to try out something, I will need the exact messages sent by the buttons or faders on your controllers. A midiox log would be the best. For buttons that send out sysex, it'll be pretty easy to remap, for MMC, I will gave to check the messages that are sent out.
you can drop this at natcl at hotmail dot com
I have some term papers to finish so I won't have time to check this until next week, but I promise i'll have a look.
Yes I've played with the mode settings, but this closes down many of the controls on my board. If I disable the mode setting I can get access to all the buttons as sys excl messages, making it much more useful.

Really? I would have never thought of that. I just read the manual on how to set it up and figured nothing would be sent if you didn't assign it to a mode.
