Nat's 2005 speculation

Nat wrote on 1/20/2005, 3:01 PM
I will write here what I *think* might be included in Vegas 6 based on what has been added to Acid 5 / Soundforge 8 and on user requests. This is pure speculation so don't read this if you have the fear of being dissapointed when V6 comes out.

1 - I think V6 will be the next Sony app released, Acid 5 and Soundforge 8 have been released after Vegas 5 so it seems logical V6 is the next one.
2 - I presume Vegas 6 will feature folder tracks like Acid 5.0
3 - Since both Acid 5.0 and SF8 now have VST support, it seems logical V6 will feature this too.
4 - Vegas 6 might use a new media management similar to what Acid 5 now has, using databases.
5 - Vegas 6 might feature a script editor like SoundForge8.
6 - Vegas 6 might feature CD-text since CDA5.2 can do it, however they might not include requiring people to use both Vegas and Soundforge.
7 - Vegas 6 will feature HDV enhencments, this was told by the devs on this forum.
8 - Vegas 6 might finaly support nested timelines, demand has been great for this feature and I can't imagine how many compaints there would be if this was not included in V6. I might be wrong so let's cross fingers...
9 - Vegas 6 will be cool (I'm pretty sure about this one :) )

So I repeat, all of this is pure speculation, don't trust it.

Any thoughts ?

It's scheduled for an early March release.

I don't want to give Sony any cause to reconsider your predictions, but how do you resolve three competing products having the same features?

If Vegas has loops and vst, why would I need Acid?

Incorprating MS components (like SQL) is a bad idea. O.K. if you have track a million loops but you won't have a million clips I hope.

That's just what popped into my head when I read your post.

I'll play...

Since Acid 5 is now rewire-slave capable, I'm thinkin' Vegas 6 will be a rewire host.

Nickle :
I doubt Vegas will have loop features, but I don't see how VST support could affect the Acid user base... Also, The support will mostly be for VST effects, not VST instruments. (another prediction).

Hi Mario,

I took your advice and bought the M-Audio 49e.

Then downloaded Acid Xpress. So I'm learning.

To add to the speculation, I think we'll get 10-bit video support in V6 also.

This has uses even when shooting 8-bit.

Nickle...

Hah!! You're soooo hooked now! :-)

I started with Acid Rock 2.0. I'm now using Acid Pro 5.0
I'm up to over 23,000 loops.

How do you like the 49e?
I'm hoping to eventually dump this humungus midi keyboard for something more compact.

Well as an audio-only user of Vegas (with the odd use of a single video track for working to picture) I'd very much hope we do get VST FX support and ReWire.

Us audio users have been banging on relentlessly for a long time now about wanting Vegas to have some midi features, which of course would include being able to host virtual instruments. I'm hoping something of a clue is in Vegas' internal preferences, where you can actually see refences to softsynths and ReWire - those they're not of course enableable. Fingers crossed.

I'd also like to see improvements and changes to Vegas' mixer routing - again we've hashed this out over on the audio forum. Plus the ability to group or 'gang' tracks.

Mario

I think the 49e is great. The key response is great and I'm re-teaching myself to play keyboards.

I like the size because I play with both hands so it is perfect.

I have to get Acid to do what I want though. Like I have a bass run in mind but trying to get it right is hard.

But I am getting hooked and sit here half the night with headphones on.

I also explored the "MIDI" thing in Vegas and Spot said it was only for controllers (like mackie) but I got excited for a minute.

I also tried loops in Vegas but couldn't match the tempo with my wav file.

So I'm getting things figured out bit by bit and if Vegas did it all I would be very happy.

"If Vegas has loops and vst, why would I need Acid?"

Which is why I think Vegas will become a rewire host.

Like I mentioned I have AP 5, which supports VST instruments.
You can get lots of them at kvraudio.com for FREE.
I also got Reason Adapted with my Firewire 410 soundcard...wow!
You start playing around with softsynths and you'll be grinning ear to ear for quite some time.

Back on track with Nat's speculations...

People have mentioned Vegas making better use of dual processors. I think Sony will address that.
