No one edits native HDV. In Pinnacle, Canopus, and FCP, they all talk about native HDV. They are processing the file in the background. Vegas needs an intermediary to edit with, hence the value of CineForm, or using a proxy such as GearShift provide.
Editing native m2t requires a simultaneous decode and draw, and Vegas doesn't take advantage of the mpeg decoders found on some of the higher end software.

Thanks, Does the IM get created as the footage is loaded or can it be created with a loaded Native File already on the system? I am guessing the first, but I am asking anyway.

It can be done either way, to do it the first way in realtime does require a fair amount of CPU horsepower. For my money unless you've got a HD capable monitor you might do better using a DV proxy rather than a CF DI proxy with GearShift.

To add to Bob's comment, even if you have a fast computer, you'll need to buy the full ConnectHD package from CineForm, because Vegas can't convert to avi on the fly. Only the full $199.00 package from CineForm can.
GearShift is a very handy tool, I use it pretty regularly, but since it's something that VASST offers, probably not appropriate for me to say much more. :-) If you'll be attending the HDV Solutions tour this month, you'll see it in action.
