When you say "project has 21 chapters," does that mean you have 21 files in the project, or does it mean you have one file with 21 chapters?

If you have 21 chapters, you don't have to do anything special for each one to return to the selection menu. That's the default behavior. (The trick is getting them to play one after the other.)

If you have one file with 21 chapters, the process is described in DVDA's manual and online help. Search it for "scene selection," and display the first topic, "Adding a Scene Selection menu. You want the second subtopic -- Create a menu that returns to the scene selection after playing the selected chapter.

For highlighting the next chapter after the current one finishes, navigate into that item and go to the End Action tab. Change Destination to point to your scene selection menu and change Destination Button to point to the button you want highlighted. (Destination Button will not be enabled if you leave Destination set at "Most Recent Menu.")

Chapters were placed using Vegas.
Added scene selctoin menu.
So I have "Play All" and "Scene Selection"
When I click on "Scene Selection" menu, my chapters appear in text form.
When I play Chapter 1 it rolls right into Chapter 2 rather than returning to the "Scene Selection" menu.
I appreciate that some might understand directions from manual and help in accomplishing what I want, but I do not understand at all.
It is as clear as mud.
Changing the destination for each chapter made NO difference.
Chapters roll into chapters.
What am I missing here?

That is how chapters are supposed to work. If you want each segment to return to the menu you need to do things differently.

You can import the video once for each segment you wish to treat as a 'chapter' and once more for the 'play all' button and then change the start and end points on the timeline for each 'chapter'. You can then set the end action for each 'chapter' to return to the menu - which could be a scene selection menu or the main menu.

There are other posts giving more detailed instructions.

Yes I can get back to scene selection menu.
I get that.
But is it possible to have DVD-A return to the NEXT chapter in sequence on the scene selection menu?
This is what the client wants.
If that's not possible I guess the next best thing is to teach them where the pause button is and play the project from "play all".
And yes I understand there are other postings here,---hundreds,---and rest assured I have used search before posting my query, but have found no solution to this problem.

The solution is the "destination button".
Choose the next chapter in sequence there.
When DVD-A returns to the menus page it goes the the next chapter in sequence.
Hope this helps anyone else trying to sort out this puzzle.
Never much cared for puzzles.
I like making videos.

As I said in the last paragraph of my reply above...
