Neat Vegas shortcut I didn't know about

Someone who knows a lot more about Vegas than almost anyone just helped me with a problem I was having, and in doing so, passed on this shortcut:

If you double-click the title bar of most Vegas dialogs, the dialog will resize to exactly fit all the controls.

So, if the dialog is too big or too small (so that you have to scroll around to find the control you need or, on the other end, if it is just wasting screen space), double-click the title bar.

May not be a big deal to everyone, but it is going to save me lots of time.

Thanks,
that's a very handy piece of info, at times that can be a major frustration.

Hmm I vaguely remember this came up in the shortcuts thread... which mentioned the really obscure + really useful Vegas shortcuts.

the thread
a quick reference sheet for most but not all shortcuts

Perhaps someone should re-compile all the shortcuts...

That is very handy. It just makes me wonder why there isn't a setting to have that happen automatically every time a dialog window opens.

Here is a link to a crip sheet of most of the shortcuts and mouse gestures that were included in Vegas 4.

Same reason keyframe smoothness defaults to 1.000?

You are obviously not a Sony ACID user or you would have discovered this years ago. ;-)

Until ACID Pro 6.0a arrived, ACID has never been able to correctly resize the dialog around Soft Synths/VSTi’s. Out of force of habit I instinctively insert a soft synth and immediately double-click on the title bar to get the proper size dialog. ACID Pro 6.0a is a lot better and gets this correct most of the time now but I have always used this in Vegas to get larger dialogs like the Color Corrector to display all of the parameters.

Also works for Windows, I use it a lot to make the window full size or sized, just double click the colour bar at the top of the window as you do with the dialogue boxes

Now if I could just figure out how to make the dialogs disappear as soon as I click on the timeline. That's how VideoFactory used to work, and the fact that Vegas doesn't (and forces you to "X" the dialog to get back to the timeline, which involves an extra mouse movement and extra mouse click) was almost the only disappointment when I upgraded to Vegas, many years ago. Like so many things like this, the number of moves is small if only done once, but when you open/close hundreds of dialogs in any given editing session, those clicks sure add up.

Oh yes.

John - well you probably do this too, but sometimes I dock the FX (and other) dialogs in with the explorer, media pool, etc. What I really need, though, is more monitors to park the dialogs onto..

Yup. Next system, two monitors.

BTW, since I've been using this shortcut the past few hours, I found if you double-click a second time, the dialog goes back the way it was.
