NeatVideo - why not AI denoise?

marcinzm wrote on 9/27/2024, 4:59 PM

Hello,

I have been always using NeatVideo to reduce noise on videos.

I mean this plugin: https://www.neatvideo.com/home

I have been using also Topaz Photo AI software to denoise photographes. It works great.

Unfortunately Topaz doesn't support Vegas.

NeatVideo has no AI software.

Do you know some AI denoise plugin for Vegas which would as great as Topaz Photo AI (for photos) but for videos?

Regards

Marcin

My first video software was Pinnacle, next one was Sony Vegas 8 (I am not sure if remember it correctly). I am also a developer and wedding movie operator and editor. For example: I have created an Android app which let me control Vegas Pro rendering progress level on Android smartphone. I created it for fun, because I also love programming. I also created my own plugin for Audio To Text feature specified usage from Vegas Pro 19. I created proxy creation plugin which uses multiple GPU threads (maximum 3) to create proxy files for Vegas Pro. I also written many others plugin/softwares which enhance my video editing, also wedding editing.

Actually BorisFX Continuum has a new AI denoise plugin available for Vegas Pro called DeNoise ML. You can take a look at that..... Topaz Video AI is another decent stand-alone option similar to Topaz Photo AI.

But honestly, If you already have the latest version of Neat Video, you already have the best de-noising option available out there, and its faster.

I would judge by the results vs the algorithm. If it does the job what more do you need?

@marcinzm I fully agree with Steve, if you already have Neat-Video, you are (probably) good. I use the term "probably" because I do not have neat-video (I did trialed it), as I do have BorisFX Denoise ML which is a one click miracle, so the cost for having another denoiser was not worth it, especially since BorisFX is so good. The only issue with the Denoise ML plugin (ML stands for Machine learning, thus AI) is, that is is very slow.

You seem to look for AI solutions, as this is the buzz word of today, and they can do miracles, but they all have a premium cost, and that cost is slow execution speed due to the calculations they need to perform, especially so if performed on your local system rather than in the cloud...

as a sidenote on photo denoising, I have both Topaz and DXO, you should check out DXO, as it blows everything out of the water with their RAW denoising. They have just released DXO photolab 8 by the way.

To be clear, Neat Video has been around for decades, and is superior at reducing noise from Analog Video Source (film transfers and analog tape source).

The AI software examples mentioned are at their best with Digital Video Source, including DV tapes, and they are plentiful.

I use either, depending on my video source and intended usage.

I second @bitman assessment with BorisFX DeNoise ML. It is truly a "one click" wonder. But it's slow. It would be the last thing I would add to my editing before rendering. In addition, it is a part of Continuum Complete, which is an awesome plugin set.
