I think also that QuickTime supports alpha channel.

I do not believe any other video supports alpha channel.

I guess you mean 32 bits (24 bits RGB + 8 bits alpha) uncompressed avi or QT .

"uncompresed DV video" do not exist because DV is a compressed format.

You could do this yourself. Start a new project, add a video track, place a text event, render as an uncompressed AVI with Alpha. Add a drop shadow to the text if you like. The drop shadow will shwo you semitransparency

Once the new media is back on the timeline you may have to open the media's properties and set the alpha channel to something besides "None"
