Need Better Technique

I filmed (what will be eventually) a ten-minute short film; I have about 25 minutes of footage containing 40 individual clips that are a mix of each scene shot two to five times. What I originally started doing was selecting the best clips and putting the video+sound on one solid line and trimming the clips down so that with each camera change there was a clear and believable camera switch without a break in action (I used one camera so I'm trying to make it look like more than one).
I was wondering, though, instead of me just taking the clips from the media pool, trimming down the video and audio for each, and then plotting them on that single line -- is there any way that I can have multiple streams running and then select which one I want Vegas to show at the right time? For instance, if there is a scene where two people are talking -- one camera shot filming one actor through the scene and another camera shot filming the other actor through the scene -- can I put both of the video streams playing simultaneously and then select when to play which video?

Sorry for the lengthy explaination but it's simple when you think about it. Any ideas?

Takes? Is that what you mean? If so than the answer is yes - just use the take option.

Or do you mean multi camera? Even if you used only one camera you could use JetDV's plug-in to put your takes in near sync and then cut in and out. I say "near sync" because, unless your talent acts like robots, everything will be slighty different.

Otherwsie you are already doing it the "right" way - as you said selecting the best clips and putting the video+sound on one solid line and trimming the clips down so that with each camera change there was a clear and believable camera switch without a break in action.

It's called editing for a reason. :)

Many techniques have been discussed on this forum. There was a "multicam with takes" script on Sundance, but there have been many discussions about how to use multiple tracks. Do a search with some of these words and I'm sure you'll find some ideas.

I think what you are asking for is if you can see the video from your "prentend" multiple cameras simultaneously so that you can choose which camera to switch to at any given moment.

Ignoring the fact that your "pretend" multiple cameras will likely not synchroniize perfectly you can achieve what you are looking for through the use of multiple tracks and track motion, The track motion will allow you to position each video on the screen so that you can see all of them simultaneously. You can then use the techniques described by filmy and johnmeyer to complete the work.
