Need CD/DVD drive recommendation.

Currently running an Alienware AMD 64 dual core 4800+ processor (Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC. Product: A8N-SLI DELUXE) with an NEC 3250A combo drive. Neither Vegas 6 nor DVDA3 see the damned thing. Sony Support is supposed to be working the issue, but I haven't heard anything for a while now (despite a request for an update on progress, if any).

Anyone else running this system successfully with a DL DVD??? I've been eyeballing the SATA Plextor 740, but I'd like some reassurance that it will show up when I install as a 2nd drive.

Any suggestions welcomed, the workaround is a bit of a pain.

Frankly, drive support with DVDA is a roll of the dice no matter what you do. I believe folks have had good luck with Pioneer drives though. www.cdrinfo.com has a lot of good drive reviews, but nothing about specific compatability with various software packages.
