I am pretty computer illiterate to begin with, but I thought this program was supposed to be easy. I bought the Vegas Platinum 6.0, and I can't even import video from my DV (samsung). I'm using the firewire, everything is normal, and my camera has been used to import before for other editing projects with my friend's premiere pro program. When I click 'import video', and plug the camera in, the screen is blue, reads ' no device ..etc. ', when I select DEVICE- 1394, or none, same thing, a blue screen that reads something similar. I can't even seem to figure out how to import from my DV cam. Any experts out there? Help me, Obi Wan Kenobi..you're my only hope. Thank you for any responses and help.

It's all relative, but VMS is easier than some, more difficult than others. It's also more or less powerful than others. Where it comes out on top is getting the balance right for the home user.

If you haven't done so already, have a look at the "Show me how" tutorials (on the right of the toolbar, at the top). There's one specificaly for capturing video from your camera, but they're all worth looking at.

Trouble having are we?

okay enough of star wars

have you tried turning your camera on, hitting the play button, then plugging it into the corn puter? A pop up window show ask you what you want to do so select vid cap. Once it is recognized you can rewind if you need to start at the beginning. If that doesnt work try capturing in windows movie. If that doesnt work you more than likely you have fallen into the dark side. . . . . . . . .

Another great tip I picked up in this forum is to use a great (and FREE!) little program called WinDV. It's a simple to use capture utility that has flawlessly imported files for me for months now. Once you've imported the files from the camera to your HD, you can simply import them into VMS for editing.
