I am making a quick video for a 48 hour film fest and I am gonna need flying blood. There will be a guy slicing throats and I want it to be over the top.

Since I have no idea how to really squib this, do any of you know anywhere on the web where I can get video of some flying blood that I can compost into Vegas? Do you suppose that maybe some ketchup squirted out in front of a green screen would work? I dunno, please someone help me somehow.

Seldom in movies is this "effect" (the cutting of a throat/neck) done in a way that mimics what would actually occur. Due to the blood pressure of the human body, when the arteries are cut the blood can spurt or gush up to five feet!

If I were going to do this shot, I would prepare a large quanity of "blood" and put into a container that would allow the fluid to be "pumped" (as if by the heart) through one or two tubes taped to the actor's neck (but out of frame).

As the killer was about to slice the neck, I would move the camera a little tighter cropping out the victim's neck but leaving as much of the head as possible in the shot. With the slash, an assistant would "pump" the blood which would spurt up into the frame violently and with a great deal of mess.

Hope this helps. Have a pleasant day!
