Need DVD authoring capability

I purchased Video Factory 2 a few years ago then upgraded to Video Vegas 3 soon after. I now would like to create DVDs but being a hobbyist I cannot justify $250 to upgrade to Vegas 5+DVD. Besides my PC runs Win98 and a PC upgrade is still a couple years away. What I'm considering is upgrading my copy of Video Factory 2 to Screenblast for $29. My idea is that I could do all my editing in Vegas and do my DVD authoring in Screenblast. Does this sound like a reasonable approach?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Actually, Screenblast doesn’t do DVD authoring. It ships with MyDVD to do the DVD authoring which is a separate application. You might want to scan the Screenblast forums and see what people think of MyDVD. My impression from them is that many people don’t use it and have purchased Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3 or DVDLab by Mediachance instead. So I would not buy Screenblast if you already own Vegas just to do DVD’s. Shop around for a DVD authoring program that has the capabilities you need. If you find that MyDVD has what you need, then the $29 upgrade price is worth it but it doesn’t even let you make chapter points for existing video files so look carefully before you buy.

Have you bought your DVD burner yet? Most DVD burners ship with some basic DVD authoring tool. My pioneer came with the light version of Ulead MovieFactory

Yes, It came with Roxio software that is good for about everything but making movies. I bought MovieFactory which is better but has some bugs that are a pain to deal with. I'm looking at Nero and will probably give their demo a try. Anyone use it? Any thoughts?
