Need help adjusting video

Hope someone will help me out here. I' ve got two video sources, one of the cameras did pretty well in low light, the other not so well. You can see what I mean here: sample vidclips (they're small, about 400k each). I'm trying to adjust the lesser of the two so that when I cut from one to the other, it's not quite so drastic. I've messed around some with the "HSL Adjust", "Color Balance", and "Brightness & Contrast", but couldn't quite get what I was after. I'm not expecting miracles, but if any of you have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate them.

I'm sure some of the color correction gurus around can probably help but just as an experiment, I tinkered around... you might try this and see if it's close to what your looking for - at least until the gurus see this thread.

Add a brightness-contrast on the bad video with settings of
brightness -0.07
contrast -0.24
cont center 0.32

Then create a full color overlay for the bad video with an aqua color using:
r 0
g 196
b 142
a 19

or you can use 255 for the Alpha and then decrease the opacity of the solid color track to about 8%.

If you look at the floor, the color is about the same betwen clips but the lights have a blue tint and the drapes go to a green instead of grey but may not be noticeable.

Anyway, maybe this will help...

I know it's easy to be wise after the event, but if you can adjust the white balance in your cameras it's worth getting into the habit of doing it. Even if you can correct it in the editor it adds a lot of time to the rendering.

DrLumen: Wow! Thanks a lot. It's pretty close to what I'm going for, and definitely sent me in the right direction. Would have never thought about that overlay.

IanG: Wasn't much I could do with that camera. It was mostly used for recording audio uninterupted since it has a long battery life, but still need some of the video from it in certain spots.

This brings me to another thing I've never been able to figure out since VidFactory 2. I can't get a solid background to initially be anything other than 10 seconds. Yes, I can adjust it after I drop it onto a track, but that gets annoying after a few times. I've tried creating and saving new ones, but they always stay 10 seconds. What gives?
