Need Help Capturing HDV ....

Terry Esslinger wrote on 4/11/2008, 11:39 AM
I am trying tto capture HDV from FX1 to Vegas 7d. I believe I have the settings right on the FX1: In the "In/Out Rec" menu I have tried both auto and HDV, the i-link conv is OFF, the AV-DV out is OFF, the tape was recorded in HDV and the HDV indicator is on.
In Vegas I unmarked the "Use External capture" in the <options-preferences- video> menu, I set properties for the project to <HDV (1080)60i 1440x1080 29.970fps> I connected the camera to the computer with a known good firewire cable. I click on <file-capture video> nothing happens! I click on <capture video in the project media window.. nothing happens. The thing is - I captured successfully about a week ago using these same procedures (I think). What am I doing wrong.

Ignore this message.
After spending an hour trying to get it to work and sitting down and writing for help I decided to disconnect everything reattach them reset the settings and bing it worked!!! Hope I don't have to do this everytime!

Excellent description of your problem!

After you click on File -> Capture Video, do you get a small dialog asking if you want to capture DV or HDV? There is a check box in that dialog which, if you check it, will keep that dialog from being displayed and will from the point forward ALWAYS capture in the format you specified. If you captured in DV format and somehow checked this, then HDV will no longer be available. I just looked and there is a note in this dialog that "this option can later be changed in the Preferences dialog."

However, I'll be darned if I can find the place where this can be turned back on. Maybe someone else can help.

I don't think the choice box can be turned back on (at least I have not found it) but you can change the setting by <preferences - video and uncheck the use external capture. At least that is what I did.
Thanks for the reply.
