Hi all,
I'm really new at all this so tryto bare with me.
I have a slot in the side of my computer for an adapter to use fire wire
(Dynex) IEEE1394 CARD BUS ADAPTER / I have the wire connected
to that and the other end connected to my camera (Canon ZR 800 ntsc. The video capture sceen shows no device connected.
I'm beggining to think that the problem is that the adapter needs a driver, because when I plugin the adapter to my computer does'nt recognize it. It will usually indicate new hardware has been added.
Any help on this would be great, thank you.
Jim.

When you installed the board and did not install drivers, that's probably your problem. Did the board come with a CD and an installation guide? IF no CD (drivers or application software), go to the board manufacturer's website and download the latest version of the drivers for that particular board, reboot and then see if Window s sees the board.

If you have a "modern" OS, Windows should be able to drive your IEEE ports without additional software, though having the manufacturer's drivers may improve performance.

You may want to look at this recent thread about video capture issues.

Thank you for your replies.
The board did not come with any software, so yesterday I started by trying to find a place on the manufaturers website to down load the proper driver for ( DYNEX ) IEEE 1394 Card Bus Adapter.
Could'nt find it, ended up calling there support number. They told me I don't need a different driver because Windows XP supports this card. Unless my card was defective, so I went & exchanged my card for a new one. Still won't work. So I got into my Device Manager, pluged the card in and yes, I see the device but it has a yellow flag on it, so then I clicked on update driver, the Wizard appeared and said it can't find a better driver to run this device, it did give the option to browse, but I have no clue where to look.

( Question)
Is there a free download for Windows Movie Maker, maybe it will work with that program. Any help would be great.
Thank you again for your replies.
Jim.

Hmmm...It's my understanding that Windows Movie Maker comes free with Windows. If you have a yellow flag on the driver and the manufacturer says they have no software for you, then you'll have find a place on the web (Microsoft) to see if there's an upgraded driver for IEEE-1394. Or perhaps the answer lies in your Windows Install CD. That's my guess, anyway.
