need help - challenging effects

Hi everyone, once again I turn to the experts for 2 questions:Ü

1. I have been trying to figure out how I can create the effect of having the camera move around a picture background. An example is let's say the graphics are flying on screen and the the camera will suddenly zoom out fast and have the graphics seem really far away. Or when it will seem that the camera is zooming inside the graphic but doesn't create pixelation.

I've tried creating a really big background size in Photoshop so I can move the event pan, but when I bring the graphic to Vegas it fits it to the screen. What should I do?

2. The other effect I want to achieve is to make it seem that my video is in fast forward with some frames missing much like the videos of Chaplin and the like. How will I be able to achieve that.

Hope to receive insights from you guys!

Thank you and cheers,Ü

1. So you use Event pan crop to make it smaller, i.e. look further away or else you zoom in to make it larger, i.e. closer.
One way to enhance the effect is ti add a little gaussian blur when it's far away, making it look slightly our of focus.

2. I think this wll work. Speed it up to say 200% and disable resampling in event properties, render it out and then slow it back down again. Or maybe the other way around?

for 2: Speed it up slightly by ctrl/dragging the edge of the event (video on the timeline). To get a strobe effect, right-click on it and in propertries lower the undersample rate.

For random missing frames, you'll need to do that manually.

If you are going for a real old-time effect, you could also add film grain, flicker, B&W, etc.

Thanks for the help guys. I think i'll be able to nail the old footage effect.

As for the number 1, when I use event crop to "zoom in" on a picture it cuts out the excess picture outside of the box. is there anyway I can avoid this so I can make it seem that I'm zoomin in and not cutting away??

Yes,
make certain Stretch to Fill Frame is ON. Then RClick within the image in Pan/Crop and select Match Output Aspect.

Make certain this is set for every keyframe.
