I'm planning to put together a music video of a local rock band that they can use as a demo. One of the shots I want is a 360 dolly around the entire band as they're playing, or maybe just around the drummer. I won't have much time to experiment while shooting so I need to prepare and get this shot on the first take. I'm not going to do it with a real dolly, but with me filming a few seconds on a tripod, stop, move to the next point on the circle, have the band start over, and so on around the circle. Maybe 8, 12, or 16 points on the circle.
The edited clip of this sequence will just be several seconds. I'm not trying to simulate a smooth dolly move. More like stop motion, but in rhythm with the music.
We'll be in a controlled environment with stage lights for the shoot so I can have them start and stop, or adjust lighting as need be. And the audio will come from another source while editing so I don't need to worry about sound while filming, but will need to sync this effect with the sound while editing in VMS 9. But I'm not too worried about that part of it. I worry if this is even worth trying.
Has anybody tried something like this? If so, I'd like to hear recommendations for getting the best bang for my time and ensuring that I'll have some creative flexibility during editing.
Thanks.
