Hi SUP,

How are you making your CD? Normally, the output from VMS + DVD Architect is a DVD.

What frame rate did you use? I've made a couple of half hearted attempt to make mpegs from screen capture utilities but my results have been useless, too :-(

the Vegas Movie Studio+DVD came with 2 cd's. #1 is a Movie Studio
#2 is the DVD Architec, I em only using the fist cd witch is the Movie Studio and it does give me an option on what do i want to make it on CD, DVD, email it, save on hardrive. The one thing i did noticed was that if i try to email it the size changes on it's own to 720x480,, and if i try to do it on a CD it changes on it's own to 352x240,, what is that all about?. When i originally recorded my clips using FRAPS i recorded it using 30 FPS but it only shows something like 27 or 25 fps, i have also tried to record it using 60 FPS, but it still only shows about 30 fps.. can anyone help me?,,

It sounds like aren't quite sure how you want to output this thing. The amount of detail in your final movie is a function of the resolution, the bit rate and the codec you use.

OK, if the goal is to make the video look as close to the FRAPS original, here is what you should do.

1) Start with the Project Properties (under the File menu). There will be an option to "Match Media Settings." Just point this at the file created by FRAPS. This should change the project properties to something like:

Width: 800
Height: 600
Frame rate: 30.00
Field Order: None (Progressive)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0000 (Multimedia)

2) When it comes time to "Make Movie", use the "Save it to the hard drive" option. On the next screen, click the "Advanced Render" button.

At this point, you have a hard choice to make. What codec do you want to use? I would recommend a good MPEG-4 based codec like DivX or XviD. But most people don't have that installed on their computer. Another good choice is MPEG-1. Whatever you choose, make sure you hit the "Custom" and select the "Video" tab at the bottom. Make sure the resolution, frame rate and pixel aspect ratio match your project settings (you might have to do this manually).

If the video comes back too blocky (and it might with high action scenes), re-render the movie with a higher bit rate.

3) Just burn your movie to CD.

Good Luck!

Thanks discdude, i saved it on my hardrive and it looks really good,, just 1 problem i got no sound, well actually 2 problems,, it sounds good on the movie studio, but i have no sound on my hardrive, and the second problem is that i burned it to a cd and i tried playing the cd on my dvd player and on my comp and it said it was an audio cd, but also no sound or anything, these are the only options i have under format.

Windows Media Video V9 (*.wwmv)
Video for Windows (*.avi)
Real Media9 (*.rm)
Quick Time 6 (*.mov)
Main Concept MPEG-2 (*.mpg)
Main Concept MPEG-1 (*.mpg)

and this is under discription:

Audio: 64 Kbps, 44,100 Hz, Stereo.
Video: 30.000 fps, 800x600, Quality VBR 90, WMV V9 Compression.

and i also downloaded "FFDSHOW" it said it was a MPEG-4, i installed it but i dont see it anywere on my options to burn the cd,,

PLEASE HELP!! I'm almost there, thanks to u,, we got it to look good,, now if we can get sound on it and get it to burn on the cd.

First, regarding the audio problem, make sure you are running Vegas Movie Studio 4.0a. The original release of VMS 4 had a lot of problems with outputting audio.

Second, I'm still not exactly sure on what you want as your final product.

Do you want something that can be played on a DVD player? Or just a CD with a movie on it that can be played on a computer? My earlier post was assuming the second option only.

Making something that works on your DVD player can be problematic. Only two types of discs usually play in a DVD player, a DVD and a VCD.

A DVD is proabably never going to look as good as your original since the DVD spec maxes out at 720x480 @ 29.97 fps. This is about 30% less pixels than your original footage. It still might be good enough though. You definetely have to install DVD Architect Studio to create a DVD. VMS can't do it on its own. This option also obviously requires a DVD burner and a stack of blank DVDs (which I don't know if you have).

Most DVD players can play VCD's (which is what the "Burn it to CD-ROM" option creates). But as you noticed, VCD's resolution maxes out at a pathetic 352x240. Not really an option.

I hope this sheds some light on your problem.

Hi,

I've seen other posts where the following has helped people who were losing audio.

Select "Tools" from the Menu and then "Preferences". Under "General", make sure the "Close media files when not the active application" is unchecked.

Hopefully, this will help you as well.

Hey Sup...

To help ease the problem of coasters, I would suggest using CDRWs for you tests and then once you have everything working the way you like it, then burn to CDR.

This one has me stumped.

If it works on the HD, it there is no reason why it shouldn't work on the CD.

Hmmm.

How big is the file? Also what format is it (mpg, avi)?
SUPSUPERMAN wrote on 6/22/2005, 2:30 PM
it is 8:42 long and it's 393 megs long, and i dont know how to find out what kind of file it is,,, if i go to my hardrive and click properties it tells me it's a Windows Media Audio/Video file, if that's not what u mean can u tell me how to find out what you mean. i went to sony vegas to see what the format was when i saved it to my hardrive and it says Windows Media Video V9 (*,wmv),,,,,
i hope this helps you help me.

When you're in Explorer do you see the filenames as name.something (e.g. myfile.mpg or herfile.avi) or just name ? If it's .something it's the .something we need to know. If you don't see that, go to MyComputer / Tools / Folder Options / View and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". Now go back to Explorer and you should see the file extensions.
