Need help with compression

I finished using Vegas+DVD on a project and the size is 4.9GB. How do I compress the mpeg2 without losing quality. Thank you.

Are you using AC3 stereo sound instead of PCM or 5.1?
Are you using VBR instead of CBR?
Can you trim some extra pauses out of your program?
Could fancy transitions be replaced with a simple cut?

These are my usual steps in gaining some space. I also try to avoid
compressing. Even though AC3 is lossy it sure helps and is not noticable
in most cases.

I am using AC3 Stereo. Hmmm, if I re-render on the prepare and burn setting, will DVD-A fit the mpeg-2 to the disc?
