I've gotten lots of help from the forum but feel I need some written material and don't know what to get. I need info on formats to use for web and dvd's. Have many different project and all are different.I have books on vegas and Vasst tape. I need more general stuff.

Another question. I have an hour video which boss wants on web site. I have no idea which formate to use. I have done it in wmv 512 and 100k. quality sucks at 100. Lots of fine detail. Should i be doing it in QuickTime? I think the length is to long for web. He wants customers to be able to download it from his web site. He would like to be able to download a DVD but I don't think it is practical but I'm to new at this to really know.
.
Any guidance greatly appreciated.

For web viewing go with Flash. Tutorial here:

Also, create a second file, using WMV with the *right* settings regarding size, aspect ratio and bitrate, and zip it. Then, offer that as a download.

So basically you use Flash for web viewing, and a zipped WMV file for downloading. These are your best bets for the web, because if you export in mpeg2 with a template for DVDs, the filesize will be bigger and possibly there won't be any audio in there. Not everyone uses Vegas. So tell your boss that offering .vob DVD files or whatever is not the best idea. Just let people watch the WMV video on their computer. And if they have an XBoX360, they will be able to watch it on their TV too.
