Need help with new Canon DV camera capture...

I just got my FIRST DV camera today: Canon Elura 80. Works great, had (almost) all the features I wanted, etc. Only 1 problem. I can't find my 6pin to 4pin firewire cable. So... I hooked up my ADS Pyro AV Link to my PC via 6pin-6pin & my camera to the Pyro vis 4pin-4pin. Then I have a problem. :)

My camera does DV in/out on the same port. When I plug it in to the pyro (like the pyro manual says so) the camera goes in to DV in mode. Can't figure out how to change it! The camra manual didn't say how to make it to DV out. Grrrr!!!! :)

Anyone know how to get it to go DV out?

CONGRATS - a really Happy-Friar!!

I've got a Canon XM2. It can't be ALL that different. I need to have XM2 in VCR mode. Have you done this? If so you SHOULD be good to go.

I seem to remember that the DV-IN thing screwed with my brain when I first started too. For the moment I'd ignore it. I don;t know but all I can think it is "Warning" you is that the camera is being controlled by a DV handshake. IN/OUT, don;t worry. Worry if AREN'T getting anything out of the camera - that's the time to worry - IMHO!

So, just do as you are doing and let Vegas VidCap "see" the DV device - your new camera! - and you "should" be able to control and capture from it TO your PC.

Just make sure you are in, whatever for your camera, VCR or PLAYBACK mode - yeah? AND YES make sure you have the SAFETY slide activated on your tape! This will stop you recording over your precious moments! Unless this is WHAT you wish to do?

I've done 4pin<>4pin and 4pin<>6pin makes no difference to the DV-IN . . . er . . thing! I've yet to see camera that has a separate DV-OUT port? Could be out there, but I guess yours is gonna be similar to mine - yeah? Oh yes I have used a Canon something 100mxV or whatever, and that had just the one 4-pin. And that showed up like mine and yours "DV-IN".
