Need hep with camera choice!!

I need to (want to) get a backup camera. My primary camera is an FX1 and I really like it.

I have been considering either a Sony SR 11 or a Canon HV 30 for a backup HD cam. I know these are two different kind of cam. One is tape based and HDV while the other is hard drive.

My real considerations are how will the formats from the FX1 and the second cam work together on the Vegas 8 time line. How would you set the project properties. And how will the footage compare or match with the FX1? I am fairly experienced in SD but a complete noobe with HD. I have a quad core PC - if that is an issue.
Any help out there to halp me decide would be appreciated.

I have an FX1 and a Sony SR11--they match up very nicely on the timeline, IMO. The AVCHD files might be an issue for you, but there are a couple of ways around it. The first is to use UpShift (do a search in the forum archives--lot's of stuff here recently), and another way is to install Vista 64-bit OS and use Vegas version 8.1. Either way works just fine, and with UpShift you'd end up with HDV files from each camera, as it transcodes the AVCHD files. Editing AVCHD and HDV files on the v8.1 timeline works just fine, but depending upon your machine you might have more luck with UpShift.

I cannot speak to the Canon camera as I have never owned one, but they are highly regarded here and were rated very highly on the camcorderinfo.com site.

sony hc3 or hc5 or whatever the model is now,, you can also use it as a deck and save wear on your fx1... I have a hc3 and use it as a deck and as a on vacation cam.... also shoots pretty decent stills, mine has had hundreds of thours running back and forth ,, still going as of this morning
