Need input on converting video

On one of my cameras I record directly to a dvd recorder...the only thing I don't like about doing it that way is that I have to rip it before I can import into vegas....I have noticed by accident that mpeg2 files that are burned to cd's can be opened up directly into Vegas...Here's where I'm stumped..........I like recording directly to the dvd recorder because it renders so fast.....but, is there a way to record to the dvd rec. and be able to pull from that finished dvd into vegas without ripping......or is it possible not to render/ finish the dvd and pull it up in the media pool of Vegas..?????? Thanks for any help.

Vegas isn't the best tool for this. If you only want simple edits look at Womble and then just author with DVDA. I'd have thought though that vanilla DV from a camera would render / encode faster and you'll get better quality.

It is amazing to me that Sony would have devoted an entire release (Vegas 6) to supporting their HDV line of camcorders, yet completely ignore another part of their product line by failing to provide any support whatsoever for intelligent import and editing (including lossless cuts-only editing) of MPEG-2 files. Sony makes DVD camcorders, but these are basically not usable entities with Vegas. Don't get me wrong, I would never recommend using such a camera as an input to the editing process, but a lot of people own them, and sooner or later your client is going to ask you to include video that they took, and it will be on one of these disks.
