4 tracks is all there is with studio.

What I've done before upgrading to the Vegas Pro was render my first 4 tracks to a high quality mpg or AVI and place that video in its own track and used the remaining 3 tracks.

This is about the only way to get more tracks out of Studio.

Sony Vegas Pro has Unlimited tracks.

...render my first 4 tracks to a high quality mpg or AVI ...

Render it as AVI (Best mode) as MPEG loses too much quality.

Yep, in Platinum you've got to learn how to 'Bounce Tracks' same as you hear about in Audio.
If you've got the cash... Vegas will open your Platinum projects so you can continue where you left off without the need to 'Bounce'.

Before investing in Pro though, download the demo and make sure it plays nicely with your computer and cameras. I've had problems with video file formats in Vegas Pro that played and edited fine in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9. Actually I'm hoping the new patched version of Pro is released on schedule today and that it will fix the things that I've had problems with in the preceding versions.

Truth be told if I had known the problems I'd have I would have stuck with Vegas Movie Studio. I though, like you, wanted to be able to have unlimited video and audio tracks and work with masks.
