Need Render Template Recommendations

ed-snape wrote on 11/4/2014, 5:26 PM
I want to render for DVDA BluRay HD, 2 track stereo pcm, but am overwhelmed by choices.
Original media is ProRes 422 1920x1080 x24 and Vegas 13 project settings conform to media, except only 2 audio tracks.
Tried HD EX which rendered at 3 x real time, and file playback stutters in DVDA.
Please advise best choice for a more efficient render.

Also, what is best method to rid project of unwanted audio tracks? I have deleted them track by track. Is there a better way?
Thank you.

Render to Sony AVC coder and choose a Blu-ray template that matches your source. Use Mediainfo to check your source bit rate if you don't know it.

You can remove unwanted audio streams with tsMuxer. If you want to convert 5.1 to 2 channel stereo, that is another matter.

The only correct answer to OP's query is to use the VegasPro Blu-ray video elementary streams template provided and of course render to desired PCM or AC3Pro audio stream.
As for a choice of codec, I would suggest Mpeg2 is a lot less problematic than the other choices..

If you have multi-track that needs a further mixdown - that should be done within VegasPro as a digital audio intermediate and place back to project timeline.

@VideoIT:

AVC versus MPEG-2 . . . does it make a difference in DVD-A as long as we render in a format that is compliant with our DVD-A project?

AVCHD ---> AVC = Shorter Render times? Smaller files? Better quality?

MediaInfo says my AVCHD files rendered with the AVC codec are AVC. MediaInfo says the same files rendered with MPEG-2 are HDV. For what it's worth, I've been rendering my AVCHD filed with MPEG-2 for the last year without any hitches or glitches.

Kimberly

@Encore:

I suggest beginning with the end in mind. Go into DVD-A and search for "Recompression, Avoiding" and this will show you the "legal" choices you have for your disk. If you give DVD-A a file in an approved format, then (usually) your files will not be recompressed in DVD-A. This mean better quality and a faster prep in DVD-A.

Ideally you want to pick a disk format that is close to your footage. You said you have 1920 x 1080 24p? Well that is a "legal" choice in DVD-A.

Now that you know what kind of disk you can make, go back to Vegas. Maybe you know this next trick -- choose Match Media Properties in your project properties. Then when you choose Render As from your main menu, you can see in the render templates that some of the templates have an equals ( = ) next to them. These templates will match your project properties. In your case your footage will match one of the several "legal" choices you have in DVD-A, so render your video and audio and take those to DVD-A or the disk authoring software of your choice. Don't forget to render your audio in a DVD-A approved format too.

Good luck and be sure to get a couple BD-RW and DVD-RW disks so you can practice burning without wasting disks.

Kimberly

Thank you both for your suggestions. I am seeing HDV 1080-24p as a choice under Main Concept MPEG-2. Is that the one I should try?

Original media carried only 1 stereo pair, so no need to deal with the unused audio channels.

I had not seen Kimberly's last post at the time of my previous one. Ok now I see the = Blu-Ray 1920x1080-60i, 25 Mbps stream. Wonder why it does not put the = in front of Blu-Ray 1920x1080-24p which would seem to better match original media, but perhaps not the project settings. (NEED TO VERIFY).

You should have choices similar to the ones below:

I Have switched the project to HD 1080 24P (1920X1080, 23.976 fps). Now the = appears before 2 choices. HD EX 1920x1080-24p, and HD422 1920x1080-24p 50 Mbps. Will follow your suggestion to see if DVDA likes one of these.I believe the HD EX is the one that failed earlier.

Wow. Now I am seeing all of these choices. Had failed to toggle the drop down list under the choices.
