I believe if you just open up 2 copies of Vegas you can select the stuff you want on one timeline and just drag it over to the other timeline. I've never done it myself but I seem to remember reading about this method somewhere. Possibly a copy and paste would work as well.

Yup, Jsnkc is correct. Open a second instance of Vegas. Copy the things you want. Switch to the first instance of Vegas, put the cursor where you want the objects to go, and then press paste.

Does not work for tracks... only events. For track based settings you will have to save the FX's on the track as an "FX Package" and then apply that FX package to the new track.

You are absolutely correct. The method I describe works for copying events, but doesn't let you copy tracks.

Agree. Also, it would be nice to copy Track fX. You can't copy them, (keyframes, etc.) without jumping through a lot of hoops.
