Need to re-edit dvd menu background

YesMaestro wrote on 6/7/2016, 5:23 PM
I have a dvd that was created in DVDA. There was a misspelling in the background video that was used for the menu. Unfortunately I do not have access to the original files any longer. Looking into the VIDEO_TS folder I see the video but it has the chapter points rendered into it. Is there a way to redo just the menu without having to re-author the dvd?

No, but you can rip the existing MPEG from the DVD and create it without losing any quality.

If you have the MPEGS you created for the original DVD and the project file, you can use that.

No ripping - necessary.
Import the disc IFO file into VegasPro... recreate a new project for authoring in DVDAPro with corrective menu style and burn a new disc.

videoITguy, that would work if he was burning the disk directly from Vegas, but he used DVDA to burn it. Can you use the IFO in DVDA? Can you be sure it won't re-render if exported from Vegas?

Import the ifo - gives VegasPro direct access to the Mpeg2 file - if you don't edit the video with any effects (cuts ARE ok) then you will get out what you put in. It will be not be greater quality than what you are being able to put into it. Would it be like working with the original camera files? Well, Of course that depends, but this process supports what you DO have. Make sure you use the default MPEG2 streams out for DVDAPro. Don't tweak the templates and don't render to some other container/codec.

Vegas does not properly smart render MPEG2 so you will get a slight, possibly negligible, degradation from using Vegas.

If you rip the DVD and only use DVDA you will get no loss of quality.

videoITguy,
So using your process you are ripping the mpegs from the DVD, just using Vegas instead of something else. That is what I suggested.

PeterDuke+DonaldT=videoITGuy - method is proven, it works smoothly, and the loss so-called is not-detectable

Thanks everyone! I did drag the ifo's to the timeline and rendered out an mpg2 at the same bitrate. I then recreated the correct menu and authored and burned.
