Need to Upgrade but VMS10? Trial Version Crashes

First Post. A lifetime ago (Four years) I bought a new Sony HD Handy Cam and SVMSPlatinum 6.0. Both worked flawlessly (OK, 6.0 is a little slow rendering) until I bought a new camera for "Wet work", a GoPro HD Hero. the new cam records MPEG-4 which, apparently VMS6.0 won't handle so I went looking for an upgrade. Downloaded the trial version of VMS 10.

Crash, crash, crash, crash and crash again. It takes forever to load, then crashes.

My system is running XP on twin dual core processors at 2ghz with 2gb of RAM

I can't see buying this unless the issues are resolved.

Suggestions?

Uninstall VMS10. Install Vegas Pro 10 trial. Check with that program. If your footage still crashes on Pro 10, then it's Platinum 10's older engine version to blame. If your footage crashes with Pro 10 as well, then it's your PC to blame for some reason.

VMS loads pretty quick even on slower machines (with an empty project). Does it take "forever" to load with an empty project? If so, it may be a bad install. Try uninstalling VMS 10 and then reinstalling it. If that fails, try Eugenia's approach.

You may also want to re-download the app remove the old one and reinstall. I've had similar things happen w/ a corrupt download.

Problem solved (I think) Projects created with 6.0 would open in VMS 10 unless the "Open With" option is used. They would crash as soon as fully loaded. Opening VMS 10, then importing video seems to work OK but I will have to recreate pre-set titles and credits. Minor. I opened the pre-set project in 6.0, then used copy and paste to import it into a new VMS 10 project and "Save as". Seems to work. Thanks for the responses.
