NEED WARNING: Remove All Unused Media From Project!

Regarding the Remove All Unused Media From Project button:

Sony: You seriously need a confirmation before doing the actual deletion.

If you had media in que to use, you could wipe it all out from the project and never even know it. Then it would not be included in the project.

When you click on the little lightening bolt to remove the unused media, PLEASE have a confirmation pop-up asking if you're sure you want to do this (the deletion).

Inadvertantly clearing out media-to-be-used is just a single, silent click away; and you might not even know it happened.

This realy ought to be done in the very next update.

Thank you.

I've had my little scares with this feature too, but hasn't it always been this way? I just loaded up Vegas 4 and it's the same.

Also - it is undoable, but that assumes you realise right away what you did. :-)

Lastly, all it does is remove the entry from the Media Pool - nothing is deleted from your hard drive nor from your project timeline. All you have to do is refind the files if you ever need them again.

On balance, and even though my heart has skipped a beat once or twice when I pressed it accidentally, I for one would not like to see a warning added to this feature by default. I'm not a big fan of uneeded popups telling me things I already know (what else would that button do?) or warning me about things that are non-destructive. Maybe the warning could be optional in preferences (though I know programmers dislike adding more and more options to preferences).

Or maybe it should be one of those buttons that you press-and-hold, pulling out a small menu with two options "Remove all unused media from media pool" and "Move all unused media to Unused folder". The latter could create, on the fly, a folder in the Media Pool. This clears away the cluttter without forcing you to go looking for the files again if you need them. Just an idea.

I guess i see it as just a cool non-destructive feature - why add a workflow-slowing pop-up warning and make it frightening? ;-)

"Move all unused media to Unused folder".

That's a damn good idea! Make sure Sony gets to know about it, ok.

That is a VERY good idea.

I would have absolutely no problem with that.

Then, you could empty that folder as needed.

This is asking for some sort of sophistication in the Media Pool.

Ummm...

Actually you can do it pretty easily from the Detail view already. Just sort by "Use count" and select all the ones that say 0 - and drag them into a bin of your choice.. say... "Unused".

Oh, yes. I discovered that a long time ago and is very handy...and a little safer.

At least you can see *what* is going to be deleted.
