I'm sorta new to Vegas. I've been 'graduating up' from VMS4.0 to Vegas 6. I thought DVDAS was to burn the DVDs. When would someone use Nero? Would this be in place of DVDAS?
You can use Nero to burn DVDs, but they must still be authored before they can be burned. You would use DVDA/DVDAS to author the DVD, then use either that or Nero to burn.
Like Kelly said, you would use DVDAS to author. You would use Nero to burn when:
1) DVDAS doesn't recognize or work correctly with the burner you have.
2) You want to burn +R media with a DVD-ROM booktype.
3) You need more flexability in putting additional files on the DVD, than DVDAS allows.
Maybe I don't understand correctly. When I save the DVDAS files it saves as a .dar file. OR, the option to "make a DVD" is on the bar on top. Then I can prepare and then burn. Correct? If I author a dvd is it the saving as a .dar file, or preparing, or using a burned dvd. How would I open a .dar file, or a prepare file or a burned disk from nero? Please excuse the newbie.
Jeff
The .dar file just describes your project. If you want to burn with Nero, you would first do the Prepare phase, specify a directory for the file and then you invoke Nero. In Nero, select the "Burn DVD Video Files" option, drag the VIDEO_TS folder that was created by the DVDAS prepare phase over to the Nero window, and click Burn.
Thanks. I notice there is an audio_TS (its empty) will I ever need anything from there?
No, it is not used. The audio for your video is in the VIDEO_TS folder's files. The AUDIO_TS folder is for DVD Audio, which virtually no one uses. However, it is theoretically possible that some DVD player might have its feelings hurt if you don't include this empty folder, so I always include it when burning with Nero.
