Have you tried opening the nested segment alone, in a separate instance of Vegas?

Same thing.
Won't open.
I'm pretty sure I've never had this happen before.
Maybe a 7.0e bug?

Thanks for suggestions.
Haven't got time to trouble shoot.
Am re-cutting.

Really?

Still is for me. Just prior to V7e, on V7d, I completed a complex 6 nested project. I edit on the fly, accessing all parts and going back and forth. Worked like a dream.

The old days? OK, I've only been with Vegas since version 3, so I can only compare back to then.

Sherman, we ain't got to the bottom of the issues here. And yes, sometimes, just sometimes, in the face of a deadline, one has to be pragmatic. I completely agree.

Have recut the segment in question.
Now it opens,----but when I click on the veg file it opens as a if it is a nested file,---as if it has been dragged onto the timeline.
BUT with one difference.
It appears as four tracks (the project file) but it begins to render as it is nested.
The other three segments behave as they should.
Click and they appear as project files on the TL.
Drag to the TL and they are nested.

Back to normal and I have no idea why.
