Network render question

How does the network render work?

From what I've read, it sounds like if you have multiple PC's on a LAN, you can share the render workload between several PC's, is that correct?

And do you have to have a license or something for each PC helping with the render? I'm assuming some kind of Vegas agent or something has to be installed on each PC.

Is there a dramatic difference in the time it takes to render when you use several PC's? What's the most number of PC's you've used to render?

Note: I don't have "full" Vegas yet, but was thinking about getting it and this was one of the things I was curious about.

The full version includes a license to render on two additional computers.

Network rendering does rendering NOT encoding. Thus, it won't help you encoding MPEG-2 for DVD, but it WILL help with compositing, fX and other items that take a long time to create.

It is most effective for relatively short pieces of video that, because of the rendering complexity, take a long time to create.
