Network render wizard script?

Several of us are finding it a bit tricky to get network rendering set up and running properly. I'm wondering if there's a way to write a script to expedite this.

Would it be possible to write something that would poll all the media on your timeline, find out the "local" and "universal" descriptions for the media file associated with each event, format it correctly and stick it into a text file? The text file could be pre-formatted to include instructions about which text to copy and paste into the appropriate sections of the File Mapper for each renderer.

Is this possible?

I agree that the network mapping is a completely unnecessary burden that makes the network rendering more difficult to set up than it need be. There are many other things that should be changed as well, and I have covered this in my other posts.

As to a script, you can get exactly what you need with only a few clicks: Follow this procedure (for Windows XP Pro -- may also work for Win XP Home):

1. Click on the Start button, and then select "Run."

2. In the Run "Open" text box, type:

fsmgmt.msc

and press Enter.

3. Click on "Shares" and then on the Action menu, click on "Export List."

The file that you create will have all the information that you wanted from the Vegas script.

Here is the listing from my computer:

Cool. Thanks again for bird-dogging all this network render stuff.
