Network Rendering using Vegas 9

I've been working on distributed Network Rendering using Vegas 9.0a with three computers. The stitch host is running Windows 7: both it and my Vista renderer //work// whilst my XP renderer fails with the message: "The requested address is not valid in its context 255.255.255.255:53704" despite the fact that there is no obvious difference between the settings on the two renderer boxes (my subnet is 255.255.255.0, by the way).

I found one comment mentioning this error as being solvable by deleting all renderers and re-entering them but this has not worked for me.

Hi: thanks very much for your thoughts.

Simple File Sharing was, however, already enabled and I was logged on to the remote XP machine so this doesn't appear to be the problem.

Sorry, with some digging I am sure you will get it working, but I have to say, it took me a long time to figure out.

Connecting successfully from a Vista laptop through a fast Wireless "N" network to a shared renderer on a wired XP Pro box.

Don't have W7 on any of my machines yet.

Another thing you can try temporarily is disable all the firewalls on your machines and your router. Then add them back one by one until you find the culprit. You might have to punch a service hole through one of them. Also, I have User Account Control disabled in Vista, however I doubt that is the cause of your problem since it is just the one machine that is acting up.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but I seem to recall that the IP address range of 240.0.0.0 through 255.255.255.254 is reserved (even for private networks). If so, it is possible that the IP stack on your XP machine might not be able to handle those addresses and thus the message "requested address is not valid". Again, I may be totally wrong.

Thanks for the various replies to my issue: I have got it working but without much of an idea as to //how//. I simply re-installed XP and all other applications (as I do periodically anyway to keep things working).
