When can we expect new audio features in Vegas
-like FX-parameter automation>>>This is doable, but I would bet that it won't happen soon.
-hardwarecontroller>>>This also is doable, but I wouldn't bet on it.
-more support for other plugin formats like VST,TDM,DXI etc.>>>Unfortunately, this will never happen. It never really mattered to me before the UniversalAudio UD1a card came out and is VST only :( Big bummer.

For what its worth...I just had a Hip-Hop session tonight and all went very well. I got many compliments on how the session was run and how everyone loved Vegas[VV3]. There was no video ofcourse done in the session, it was all audio based. These were the same clients of mine that recorded with me [4 songs]when I was using Cubase exclusively for audio [vegas was used for just scoring]. I honestly feel that with all the features that VV3 is missing in the audio department compared to cubase,sonar,logic,protools,etc...it still holds up DAMN WELL to my expectations of what I need in audio software. It did what I wanted it to do and performed like a champ. I'm still freaking out on how easy it was to run this session compared to the headaches I gave myself with cubase.

I'm not sure if the next update will have any audio fixes in it...if it does then I can expect a even more efficient workflow for the sessions to come. I would love to go to the download page and see VA3 with all this cool stuff added on...but if its not in the cards this time around I can deal with what I have now...Pretty kickass piece of software.

One feature I would kind of like in VV3 is having the ability to change the tempo of the metronome on the fly so that I can adjust the clicks to the samples that I recieved on a cd. A "Beatmapper" would be best but a simple metronome dialog box with incremental buttons would be fine. It would be cool if you could "TAP" the spacebar to the tempo of the song and the metronome would sync up like that! Thats a feature that I have with my line6 pod guitar pre. It annoyed me a bit to have to go to acid to get the tempo info [133.319 bpm], piece together the song [needed to add 16 bar sections for versus+1chorus], render then import to VV3 for tracking. I would like some type of export feature that immediately opens up a rendered acid project into a customized VV3 template [kind of like ctrl+E...opening a wave file into SF but for a whole arrangement].

All in all I give the current audio features a big thumbs up and am looking forward to whats to come[keeping my fingers crossed].Plus I'm also looking forward to some video guys crying about the lack of substantial "video updates" in upcoming versions.

BTW...If you need VST plugins to work in Vegas go to www.fxpansion.com and get their VST Wrapper...I've heard great things about it and I'll be getting it soon. I went to the UA1 site and there was a post of a Sonar user who got it to work with that wrapper. www.uaudio.com www.chrismilne.com/uadforums/

Later.

I would love to be able to drop a tempo change like a marker, as in Acid. Being able to tempo map a song before you record it, and then have people play to a metronome is really cool if they're decent musicians.

There are persistent rumors that the next update is going to have a pile of new audio features. That is NOT the case. 3.0a is a bug fix only release. As shutnot pointed out, there were many enhancements (audio, video) in Vegas 3, and at this point we are fixing bugs, and that's it for 3.0a.

Does Vegas development, beyond bug fixes, continue? YES.
As of this writing, can we release any info about the future feature set or ship date for any new features in Vegas? No.

Not working well.
Its time already to give the customer what he needs. In the reel world, Neve doesnt tell their customers they cant use an SSL compressor across the 2 track buss out.

Besides the obvious problems that everyone is having with the current win2k/xp drivers with the uad1...what are you experiencing that is holding your mixes back? How is the wrapper handling with normal vst plugins?

I wouldn't blame SoFo about lack of VST...I would blame UA1 for its lack of support in the DX market! These plugins CAN be created for both platforms, you need to email them and complain about the wait on DX support!

Opening up the same ol' can-o'-worms again....

All of these responses/ideas/gripes, etc. are all focusing on how SF could/should make VV3 a better audio program. Excuse me?...AUDIO program??

I know that (but don't understand why) VV3 is miles ahead of VA2 in the most needed/wanted audio capabilities, but wouldn't we be better serving ourselves (I'm speaking for us AUDIO engineers) by prodding SF to do something about getting VA2 up to snuff instead of asking for more audio features in VV3? Remember, Vegas was originally a multi-track digital AUDIO recording software package. I think SF has really smeared the lines between their different products in an attempt to streamline things. But, come on, really - why does every program have to be an All-in-One solution. How many pro video editors/houses need (or even care about having) unlimited audio tracks? And how many pro audio engineers/producers give a rip about using umpteen different video crossfades/transitions on their CD project? Can you imagine if all ProTools users started picking on DigiDesign to make it more video friendly? Hah!!!

I really like Vegas Audio - use it all the time. But I'm holding out for VA3 to be the baddest digital audio recording/editing/Redbook CD authoring PC tool on the planet! SF - don't disappoint us!! You're much better off doing one thing at a time, and doing it WELL!!!

Erm... You must not have been following. But the word is that Sonic Foundry is not going to release Vegas Audio 3. However, they have promised to keep adding audio features.

I just don't see how they'll get audio-only people who don't already know the software to buy it. Or for that matter, how many audio only magasines are going to review a product called Vegas Video... hmmm

It doesn't matter really if you know the program... it still rocks for audio. It's just not designed for programming dance or pop. It's a giant tape machine / mixing desk with automation. ah well. Eventually maybe some programming features will arrive.

The only thing i found some time ago was this:

http://www.raditec.de/English/Products/SAC-2K/Compliance/compliance.html

So Sonic foundry is busy with the development of a hardware controller for vegas !

Unfortunately SF don't say anything about this development ??
And mayby they loose some audiocustomers who are searching for software with this
support(or other features)!
As a result of this quitness.

I was searching around again... and found the audio features from a 64 $ program!
n-Track Studio.. I don't no if it's very stable but if you see some the extra audio features Vegas not have:
Support for VST plug-ins & VST instruments
Asio support
effects parameters automation
Etc...

I use in Vegas video 3 only the audio part(And I like it very..), and I hope SF not forget the audio users in the future and keep them informed with the development of it.
And don't loose them !!!
