I just posted a new "auditing" script over in the script forum, and eventually hope to post it on one or more of the script sites. Here's the link to the script in the Sony script forum:
Audit to find completely overlapped events
Have you ever found, after lots of editing, that small event "slivers" are on one of your tracks, and they lie on top of another event? Really a pain in the neck, and something that can happen in many different ways, depending on how you do your editing in Vegas. The smaller event takes complete precedence, which means that the video will suddenly switch to the smaller event and then back again to the longer event. If the overlapping event is really small (i.e., short duration), it is almost impossible to see by scanning the timeline with your eye, especially if you have lots of tracks.
This script will find every event on the selected track that completely overlaps another event.
If you've never had this problem, then this script will have zero value to you. On the other hand, if you've ever had this problem, and have worried about whether something like that might happen again, then I think you will appreciate the "peace of mind" that this will give you.
This joins the other auditing scripts I have written previously:
1. Audit for event levels that have been accidentally "nudged;"
2. Audit for really short gaps or overlaps between events, which are often (although not always) the result of an error, rather than something you want;
3. Audit for no final keyframe. This one looks at each event, and if keyframes have been added, but the last keyframe is not at the exact end of the event, that event gets flagged. Especially when you keyframe still photos, if you later decide to increase the duration of the photo, the keyframe motion stops before the end of the event, because Vegas doesn't keep the final keyframe at the end of the event when you stretch the event (although it does keep the initial keyframe at the same location when you stretch the event to the left).
I have several other audit scripts in the works, if anyone is interested.
