New Black Magic Driver

For anyone having issues, they just released a new driver for XP, version 5.1.

My issue was this:
http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=400501

I must say that I have been impressed with the service from Black Magic. Despite the almost one day difference between US and Aus, they always reply back with good solutions. The same problem submitted to Vegas support at the same time, took 12 days to get a reply and the reply from Sony was to uninstall and reinstall Vegas (and to make sure that I have 300 free megs on my C drive to install.) Good grief, I'm trying to work with HD files that big... duh!

I've done tech support, its not fun, and it's not the techs fault. They are trying their best and I never, ever take issue with them. The same response time and time again means that the Vegas support system is not working. The problem should have been sent to someone familiar with Black Magic products instead of just sitting in a queue for almost two weeks... Lame! Lame! Lame! Did everyone jump ship at Sony Media? I know I saw about 4 job openings over at Creative Cow.

Sorry to rant, but it's a shame they can't get their sh*t together because Vegas is the best editor out there. It will, however, not make it unless they provide better service and better marketing. Just cause its the best, won't make it survive.

(p.s. Black Magic support rocks!)

Couldn't agree more, they've pushed V6 as being ready for working in the broadcast space but for those working with DB or HDCAM time is very, very much money. You hit a snag working to deadlines and you need fixes in minutes if not seconds, days barely cuts it, weeks is beyond the pale. Furthermore the choice of NLE and the cost of hardware to run it is petty cash in the grand scheme of things. What's more to the point, those working in that space only need to be burnt once and they don't come back for a long, long time.
Aside from that though it's good to hear of another Aussie company doing it right, at least one BMD guy I've spoken to is even a Vegas user.
I've gotten at least some response from the Vagas team in the Cow's BMD forum.
Is 5.1 in official relaease, last I heard 4.8.1 was the latest known to work safely with Vegas driver.

4.8.1 is the "Officially certified" Windows Decklink driver (it says this on the Decklink DL web page), and we advise that you use 4.8.1 and not any of their beta drivers.
