Same here!

Our recommendation is to uninstall prior to installing the update.

Historically I have always installed over the prior release. After reading the forum, I decided to uninstall 425 and then install 511. Of course, this also installed Boris BCC7 OFX and my Yadif install. They were easy to reinstall, Boris asked for a number but I was able to click around it and it is working fine.

I have tried both methods and they have worked fine including the recent 425 to 511 update. Never noticed any difference ever.
However, If ForumAdmin says we should do an uninstall first then new install, that is what i shall do from now on. Sounds like good advice.

Paul.

If ForumAdmin says to uninstall and install, that's what I will do from now on.

In the past I've always installed over the previous builds but yes it'd be better to uninstall and then reinstall.

Of course I've always left previous whole versions intact. For instance I wasn't really ready to drop VP10 for VP11.

It's possible that installing over an old build has bit me with VP11. On one of my computers, VP11 has messed up the OFX filter dialogs. I can apply losts of OFX filters by pasting attributes but I can't adjust them because Vegas eventually crashes when I touch the OFX filter dialog. Both VP11 and VP10 are affected. Uninstalling everything (VP11, VP10, Setup folder, all hidden files named *ofx*) and then reinstalling the current build of VP11 doesn't fix it. My assumption is that there's some file being left behind, or maybe a registry setting.

Uninstalling all I can and then just installing VP10 seems to work, so I think the problem is introduced by VP11, but not on every person's install, evidently.

So anyway, better safe than sorry. Uninstall the previous builds of the version you're updating. Maybe it would make a difference.

And now it seems V remembers your preferences after an uninstall, so no major farting around to get paths etc back right.

So 'uninstall first' guarantees a cleaner start.

On the other hand, if you're really trying to get a totally fresh start, this doesn't help.

Hopefully it's just paths and registration-done info. Must delve into reg and check half-way thru one update sometime.

I was digging though the registry today for entries containing OFX and discovered that it *also* stands for Open Financial Exchange, which is used by applications like quicken, which I happen to have installed on the PC that crashes when I touch an OFX effect dialog. I doubt it's the problem but...

Mainly, since VP11 is fouling VP10 for me, I'd really rather completely remove vp11.

i know what forum admin said - but years ago (7 to 8, 8 to 9?) i did uninstall and lost all my plugins - had to reinstall them all over again. i did this a couple of times (ie. uninstall, install new), but everytime it took out my plugins.

once bitten, etc.,

i now simply install over without any problems.

would forum admin care to comment on uninstall removing plugins?

And who are the faces behind Forum Admin?

If uninstalling prior to upgrading was that critical to success, it would be built in to the upgrade install.
Right?

Yes!
