New Clip after I yell CUT !!!

Stonefield wrote on 6/10/2004, 8:47 PM
I just discovered this....

I'm capturing some old clips from a tape in my Canon Elura. All is going well and after each take I yell cut and the camera is stopped and onto the next take. Well in Vegas Capture, it seems it creates a new clip after the camera was stopped and started again on the original footage. Don't get me wrong because if this is actually what's happening that would be great. A new clip for each different "take."

Is this how it's always been and I've just missed this? How does one turn it off ?

...great feature.

Stan

PS I know that if you capture stills in photo mode on my camera, Vegas Capture will import them as separate clips.

Vegas just continues to amaze me.

In addition to timecode, your video camera has an internal clock that can be set. So that information is also on the tape. I assume batch capture is noticing that when it is sorting clips.

<edit>I meant scene detection and not batch capture.

Yep, it’s always been that way. It senses breaks in the timecode and makes a new scene. To turn it off go into the capture tools and select Options > Preferences > Capture tab and uncheck Enable DV scene detection.

I use this "feature" to assemble my Run 'n Gun Community film work. Often client has not got a clue/idea as to what the final video will look like .. I go and "collect"=film material. Bring it back to base and "quickly" edit up the "dallies" for the client to see ..

"Oh, I see what you are doing . .Looks great!" . .well yes, it is the story that unfolded. I could not have done this, this easily if the video was in ONE long clip . .Yesss... I could have done it BUT scene detection by Stop and Start is a great simple method of the narrative chronology .. even if the cameraman aint got a clue . . HAH!

JR, wait until he sees "Takes" . . he'll need to lie down . .he he he he . ..

. .oh I diodn't say. But you can also manage the clips/takes into Media Bins. Something alomn ght elines of:

Good Takes

Bad Takes

Indifferent Takes

.. or ..

Start Takes

Middle Takes

.. .etc etc etc . ..

You can name these Bins what you want . . WORD OF WARNING! IMHO Bins have a bit of minfd of their own . . I'll get back to using them when I can't afford to mess up a client's work . .

Hope this helps .. .

Do the Online Help in Veags . . that'll get you going! Loads of info .. see what is appropriate for your workflow. There are many ways to skin this particular cat . . oh yes . .takes can also refer to audio too.

Come back and report your thoughts and work methods . .ie, how you found the options for this type of clip managment. I'm really interested in hearing what festures you found useful.

Best regards,

I've heard of the use of takes but until now never seen it. WOW.

I do a lot of work with model videos mostly for fun. ( Hey, love my hobby ! )

And sometimes when the music in the video comes in at a certain time, like a really good drum or guitar fill, I'm looking for that PERFECT shot that really emphasises that musical cresendo. Before I found out about takes, I would have to add a clip, look at it, decide if it's good or not and if I don't like it, I move on to the next. But wait !!! That clip I had four clips ago seemed to work better than the one I got now....uhm ? Where is it ?????

TAKES.....line up your best candiates for the drum fill, loop the point of interest, sit back and press T to cycle thru them. Process of elimination....that one looks good but her hair was in her face...GONE....ok....that one looks good, but she jumped outta focus in the middle...(Sheesh, models ! ) Ok..gone...ok ok, down to clip 014 and clip 110...back and forth back and forth....We got a winner. Clip 014. Bit of the glow filter, push the blue to make it look classy....Boom ! Another classic.

Take a bow Vegas and the TAKES function.

Stonefield, what did I say, ' JR, wait until he sees "Takes" . . he'll need to lie down . .he he he he . .. ' . . .YOU got it Chum! . .Neat eh??? .. I love this software . . it is being fashioned around our wish for "Quick 'n Easy" . . THIS means we can all expand into our creativity .. Yes it is daunting sometimes .. but I really don't know how thw the Prog. Guys 'n Gals could do things better .. oh, it will come .. my My particular Nirvana for an NLE would be the sequence in "Minoroity Report" where young Tommy Cruise is "assembling" evidence for his stormtrouppers . .that whole sequence was sooooo, fab I sat there in the Cinemea and thought - "Now THAT'S what I want from a video edting thingy .. oh yes . . Oh well, Deep on ideas BUT shallow pockets here . . .

Stonefield . . . don't calm down - just get out there Film 'n Edit! Have humungus FUN!

Grazie

. . . gotta giggle .. really pleased for youse . . ;-)
