My sony Vaio has passed away and I would like to know is it possible to download to my new computer. Do you guys think HP pavilion Elite M9040n is ok for video editing mostly?
Download what? The Sony software? It's all available under the Downloads tab at the top of this screen. You did save all your license keys, right? Or if you registered your software then look under My Account / My Software to find a list of all your licenses.
Or are you talking about transferring everything from your old computer to the new one? This could be tricky since you say the old one is dead. If it was still running then Windows has a function to transfer all your files and settings to the new computer. If it really is dead, but the hard drive is still ok, you can mount the hard drive in the new computer as a second drive and then access or copy all your files from it. It's nowhere near as easy to transfer all your settings this way.
HP's website is becoming more and more useless i see. It's almost impossible to get a straight answer as to specs and pricing now, especially since i'm not browsing with MSIE. *sigh* However, the computer you mentioned appears to be a home entertainment center model. It probably includes a lot of features and fluff that you won't be using for video editing. If you go with something a little more 'business' you can probably get more guts that you need for less money.
If you have a local mom&pop computer store please go ask them for a quote. Tell them that you want lots of processor power and hard drive space, but don't really need anything else fancy. And also insist on Windows XP instead of Vista. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much they can offer you.
Of course, i you really want a media center PC for watching and recording TV, then by all means look into that model.
