New computer, Movie Studio 12 won't start properly

I've just built a new computer with an Intel i7-6900K CPU, 32GB memory, Windows 10, and AMD 470 with 4GB memory (the best I could find at a reasonable price), using Radon 17.6.2 driver.

Movie Studio 14 and Vegas 14 installed and load/run with no problems.

I installed MS12-1184/64 bit also, but when I try to start it the loading stalls at "Creating File I/O Manager" and the program throws an error message. If I click on the error message, MS12 will abort. However, If I wait, Studio will start and appears to be working normally. At any time in the process if the error message is closed or sent, Movie Studio will immediately crash and burn.

I have installed and uninstalled several times, but the situation is always the same. I even tried installing from the original Disc and upgrading to version 1184, but that has made no change. I've tried running as Administrator and resetting, to no avail. GPU acceleration on or off does not seem to make a difference.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try this fix (for Vegas Pro) -

Open the Task Manager and look for Vegas.exe and FileIOSurrogate.exe. 'End Process' them.

Some additional detail about the fix here. A for Vegas Pro too.

For VMS12, in Task Manager - 'MovieStudioPlatinum120.exe' and I see 'FileIOSurrogate.exe' (not visible, 32 bit).

Try it out and see if it works.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the response. I found the FileIOSurrogate.exe and killed it, which sped up the loading, but the problem with the error message being "tied" to the program still exists. If I respond in any way to the error message, that kills Movie Studio. If I leave it alone in the background, Movie Studio continues to function, but I an hesitant to do any serious work with MS12 since I know something is basically wrong with my installation or system.

One other thing I have discovered is that the startup also hangs for a while on GPU, even though I have GPU turned off in the options.

This is really curious, since I never had any problems with Movie Studio 12 on two previous systems running Win 7, which makes me wonder is I've run into some type of Win 10 incompatibility.

Thanks again for your help.
