New Connect HD (v3.2.3) is now available.

This minor update is worth getting as it bumps the codec to V2.8, fixing some chroma overflows V2.7 was getting under Vegas. V2.8 has other minor quality tweaks for the 8-bit world, although most of the enhancements have gone into the 10-bit version. You might be thinking, "what does 10-bit have to do with Vegas?". Well we recently modified the Video for Window codec to use 10-bit internal precision even with 8-bit I/O for a further increase in quality. We did this as our Prospect HD users still have many 8-bit apps they would like to use -- including Vegas. Now few Vegas users have little need for the full Prospect HD software (given its Premiere Pro integration), but we are making this option is available though Prospect HD Codecs Pack ($799) for those doing high-end work in Vegas and for 16-bit+ compositing within AE Pro.

Dan, what about the playback capabilities of the new version? Will the user now see better preview capabilities, or does that correction take longer?

Wolfgang,

The correction to return to Vegas 6 performance is on Sony's plate. We have explained what is a occuring and we hope they take on the task. To address it from our end is possible although it is large to work around, which we believe to be a Vegas 7 fault, and our engineering resources are limited.

My computer is a P4 3.06 with 2 gig of RAM. It worked acceptably well with Cineform 3 and Vegas 6, but simply doesn't cut it performance wise with Cineform 3 in Vegas 7. Regardless of whos fault it is, this is a "make it or break it" issue with me. Without a return to the performance levels of Version 6, I simply can't really use Cineform for much of anything other than mastering. I don't want to go back to Version 6 of Vegas because, to be frank, the better performance of native video with Vegas 7 is more important than it's performance with Cineform. Ideally I would like to be able to use both native m2t and Cineform. I much prefer Cineform for anything that involves prerendering, rerendering, or much color correction. I should be able to do both, but right now I just can't.

Dan, thank you for the info, even if that means that the playback preview improvent is not available by now.

Dan, thanks so much for you and the Cineform teams constant great work. I'm betting that the Sony team is working like beavers to get this issue resolved.

Dan, you've given me the impression that Madison isn't all that interested in committing effort. While my AMD 2x 4800 machine is running V7 and cineform OK, I'm not seeing better than I had with my old machine and V6. I suppose everybody having problems should be submitting support requests to Sony.

Serena is, of course, right. Everyone, with ANY problems, requests, fixes, work-a-rounds, etc., should ALWAYS contact Sony. This board, while maintained by Sony, is NOT the proper part of the Sony site for any complaint, suggestion, request, etc.
