New Feature hope

Question for Sony - which I know others will be asking! ;o)

Just wondering if we can expect any scripting changes/enhancements in the next major version of Vegas?

I'm assuming details about scripting features are less sensitive than Video or Audio details prior to release.

For me the big, obvious, killer feature would be to allow a way to programmatically create and alter Text Media. It really feels like that would open a world of possibilities for captioning, creating on-screen timers and adding text data to video projects.

I have seen so many areas in which this could automate processes - obvious ones being able to create all the interviewee name captions for a documentary in one go by just reading the list in from a text file and laying them out with a consistent in/out transition on the timeline, so you can then reposition at will.

But a more unusual example was to create a series of video messages for an onboard train system which used MPEG files. They wanted a sequence of about 20 messages, regularly changed, with daily service info and special events etc.. It just seems so silly to be copying & pasting 20 lumps of text into Vegas manually when you can automate so many other complex things!

If it weren't for that step I could actually automate the whole process from receiving the client's text content via a web form, to processing, rendering and then FTPing the video files directly into the client system. It seems crazy that the part I can't automate is the Text!

So I'm wondering is this really a more complicated thing to implement in Vegas than we realise? What are the chances of it being in Vegas 6?!!

Cheers

There's been LOTS of posts here over the past couple of weeks. However, your question cannot be answered due to NDA's.

Well I count 14 posts in 15 days for the whole forum
.. ie less than one per day

6 of them came from you!

You call that buzzing?

Really I'd rather you hadn't replied since you adding nothing.. not even point of view on the subject.

Jetdv was merely responding to your second post where you were wondering why no one answered you first post. Sony didn’t answer because they never disclose information about the contents of a release before announcement day. No one else answered because they are bound by a non-disclosure agreement that forbids them to do so.

Many of us have repeatedly asked for the ability to modify text in generated media. In fact, jetdv even compiled a list of requested features for scripting from all of us to present to Sony. If you read the past threads, you will see that there is no lack of points of view on the topic. There really is no need to rehash what we’ve already asked for repeatedly.

Heck, I would be happy if text presets didn’t change the text! Then they would be more useful as styles.

Well if you've asked for it repeatedly and it hasn't happened yet I don't see any reason to stop asking! Surely the more voices the better?

In the Audio Forum you will see Sony *have* made suggestions and little hints about improvements & developments in certain areas for Vegas 6.

I know they have to be careful what they say, but I guess I'm looking for an assurance this isn't going to go the way of Sonar's CAL.
