Apparently my previous post never made it to the
server...Forgive me if this is a duplicate.
As a new Vegas user, I'm excited to say that this
relatively inexpensive package is intuitive, relatively
stable, and well-designed...Even in comparison to the
relatively "high-dollar" workstations I use at my day job.
Congrats on a beautiful start. I'd expect nothing less
from Sonic Foundry.
I have a few new feature suggestions that imediately come
to mind:
1) Stereo widening/narrowing track AND bus plug-in...I
have XFX 1, 2, and 3 and do not find this function. In my
experience, having the ability to adjust stereo spread and
relative mono presence is exceedingly useful in mixing.
Samplitude offers this feature as a main bus adjustment,
BTW.
2) SMPTE/MTC "time stamping" (perhaps as RIFF header info)
of Vegas track wavefiles to allow resync to original record
time on the EDL.
3) An expanded trim window to allow editing, slipping, and
crossfading of 2 EDL entries with edit preview, and write-
back to EDL. I realize that this can be done in the UI,
but on a crowded EDL, it gets difficult to see what's going
on...AND, there's the necessity to constantly zoom in and
out with a heavy pre-roll requirement for buffering while
attempting to preview an edit in progress on large EDL's.
4) The ability to turn OFF track/EDL entry name tags...If
there's already a way to do this, please let me know! They
always seem to be where my edits are...and in the way.
5) Support for ASIO 2 sample accurate sync to MDM's...If
wave drivers won't do it, then move to something that
does...Even if a competitor came up with it. Professionals
need sample accurate sync. My hardware will do it...My
software will not. That's disappointing.
6) The ability to change clip duration and fade when
in "lock" mode. Lock should constrain movement in time,
not editability.
Thanks for your consideration of these ideas. Long live
Vegas.
