NEW: German Deshaker Video FX plug-in

Jøran Toresen wrote on 2/1/2010, 3:06 PM
I stumbled across this Video FX plug-in where you can use Gunnar Thalins’s Deshaker as a Video (event) FX in Vegas Pro. The script is written by a man with the nickname “elCutty”.
(This is not the NewDeshaker script from Andy E.)

The plug-in is called DeshakerIF (Deshaker Interface I suppose) and you can read more about it here:

http://www.vegasvideo.de/plugins/101-deshaker-interface-fuer-sony-vegas-pro.html

I installed it and DeshakerIF showed up as a Video FX in Vegas Pro 9 32 bit. But something is wrong because some options are greyed out when I try to configure the plug-in. But I can see the same user interfaces as The Deshaker Configuration dialog in VirtualDub.

On my Norwegian version of Vista Ultimate 64 bit, DeshakerIF installed to this location:

* Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Anwendungsdaten\Sony\Vegas Pro\Application Extensions

Maybe this causes the problems? Or maybe the problem is that I have installed two versions of VirtualDub on my PC (I use Andy E’s NewDeshaker)?

I hope some of the more technical skilled persons can find a workaround / solution so that it will be possible to use DeshakerIF on non-German machines.

Here are some other links (in German):

This DeshakerIF plugin hasn't been tested on Vista systems, nor on any non-German Windows installation. It does not work on Vegas Pro 64 bit version. But it works fine on German Windows XP and Windows 7 32 bit.

The plugin itself might work fine on English Windows XP and Windows 7 systems (not sure though) but we haven't had the time yet to adapt the installer to English systems.

If someone can help us to find the correct install pathes for English XP and Windows 7 systems I could adapt the installer the next days.

By the way - VirtualDub doesn't matter to DeshakerIF because this plugin version doesn't use and doesn't need VirtualDub. It uses Gunnar Thalin's Deshaker in a direct way.

Thank you, Marco.

Are you the author of this plug-in?
Also, I think that a lot of Vegas users would like to install this plug-in on Windows Vista PC’s!

No, I'm not elCutty, who is the plugin's author. I did only make the installer for elCutty's DeshakerIF and host his plugin on my VegasVideo.de website. I know elCutty does not own or run a Vista system.

Maybe - once the pathes of the installer are adapted - it also works on your Vista system.

Be sure you have a Vegas event selected before starting the DeshakerIF plugin. If you drag and drop the plugin from the FX window onto the timeline event be sure the event is still selected when you drop the plugin!
Then first thing you must do to ensure the plugin working properly is to click the "SetLogName" button. Then click "Analyze" and wait until the analyze process is completed (this is Pass 1). Now you can render.

This is in brief how it usually works (without having mentioned the adjustments for the "core engine" Deshaker).

Marco, I have selected one event (actually, I have created a region by double clicking this event). But, beneath “ShowConfig” I get this message: “Could not open Vegas Control-Interface”.

Consequently, beneath this message the plug-in states that “FramesInEvent=0” and the three buttons “SetLogName”, “Analyze” and “Cansel” are greyed out.

But I can open “ShowConfig” and I can alter the settings in Pass1 and Pass2.

I can also (after choosing Pass1), analyse the event using the play button (therefore I created a region). I can go to Pass2 and view the deshaked video. But I think this stabilized video event is not “stored” on my PC (excuse me if this is a bit unclear for you). For the first few frames, I also get a message saying “Deshaker: This frame was not processed in pass 1”.

Hope this helps,
Jøran

Please use this link for an English webpage and an English Deshaker Interface installer version:

Deshaker Interface on VegasVideo.de

I hope this version at least works on English Windows XP and Windows 7 systems. And sorry for the poor info translation.

Marco; I just downloaded the English version of DeshakerIF. Everything seems to work OK on my Norwegian version of Vista Ultimate 64 bit (Vegas Pro 9 32 bit). I can change the parameters in Pass 1 and Pass 2. And after the Analyse part, I can preview the stabilized event. Great!

In the “Installation and use of Deshaker Interface”, you say:

8. The analyze process equates to Deshaker's Pass 1. Once the analyze process is completed you can render the timeline event. Before starting the render process you can do further adjustments to Deshaker's Pass 2 (to do so click the button ShowConfig in the window Videoevent-FX where Deshaker appears).

My question is: is it necessary to render the stabilized event(s), or can I wait until my project is finished?

This seems to be a very useful tool!

The plug-in works great also under Vista x64 eng, in VP 9.0c 32bit.

The only strange thing is that when focus leaves the interface window, analyze process stops... Why is that?

Also, once I start rendering, Vegas exists...

Edit
The error occurred when I tried to rendered mxf clip into another format; it works rendering to mxf, though. The effect is visible, but a bi jelly - have to play with the settings...

1) I had no problems when I rendered two of my stabilized clips to DV avi.

2) At the moment I see one great disadvantage: DeshakerIF does not remember my settings in Pass 1 and Pass 2. Therefore I must specify my custom settings every time I use the plug-in. Question: Is it possible to store the settings?

3) I tried to save my own preset (DV Own1), but then Vegas stopped and I had to quit the application.

Edit: And when I restart Vegas and try to apply DeshakerIF, Vegas freeze and I have to quit the program.

I can only guess you can wait until your project is finished as long as you does not modifiy events which has just passed the Deshaker analyze process.

When you mention "settings of Pass 1" - do you mean your definition of the log file path and the analyze process? I think there is no way to store it - this should be set for each single time you use the plugin.

But talking about the settings of Pass 1 and Pass 2 in Gunnar Thalin's part of DeshakerIF you can adjust any setting, click the OK button and then save this as a Vegas FX preset. This is how the already existing presets of Deshaker Installer were stored.
Just tried again, modified some settings of Pass 1 and Pass 2, stored it as DeshakerIF preset and recalled the preset. It worked fine.

Not sure what could cause the trouble you mentioned in 3).

Would the plug work in VMS?

Ninan, download and install. And tell us if it works or not.

No, it does not work in Movie Studio. It's for use in Vegas Pro only.

Deshaker Interface appears in the Video FX window of Movie Studio, but applying it onto a Movie Studio timeline event would cause a crash.

I'm not sure but I guess it is impossible to make it work in Movie Studio because it needs an extension function which is available in Vegas Pro only.

Sorry Marco if this has been mentioned before, but does this interface need John Meyer's Deshaker or the NEW Deshaker by the other chap?

How do I know if I have the correct one to work with this interface?

Grazie

You don't need any other tool or file. Anything needed is provided within the installer.

Excellent!

Installed and using.

Q1: JM's came back as a Take2. Any possibility that this could be provided too?

Q2: When I do the 2-Pass I get the Information Frame breaking through the finished run? What AM I doing wrong?

Best regards

This is really a splendid improvement of the deshaking.

Probably I am doing something wrong, however, because it seems to me that the settings for the Deshaker is reset everytime I use it, and so I have to enter i.e. "Pixel aspect ratio", "Use previous and future frames" etc. every time I use it on a new clip...

My many, many deshakings are all pretty much the same, and I have found a good standard setting that I would like the system to remember. Is that possible?

Edit: Ah, that was an easy one - this clever system allows saving of presets. Great!

"Q1: JM's came back as a Take2. Any possibility that this could be provided too?"

I don't think so. Deshaker Interface works in a different way. It is - almost - a regular Video FX, not a scripting solution.

"Q2: When I do the 2-Pass I get the Information Frame breaking through the finished run? What AM I doing wrong?"

Sorry, I have no idea here.

Yes, using own FX presets is the way to go storing any Deshaker Interface adjustments.

Einar Ritsmer,
you are in Denmark, aren’t you? Which version of Windows do you use? The reason I ask is, as I mentioned above, that I tried to save my own preset (DV Own1), but then Vegas stopped working and I had to quit the application. And when I restart Vegas and try to apply DeshakerIF, Vegas freeze and I have to quit the program. I use the Norwegian version of Vista Ultimate 64 bit (Vegas Pro 9 32 bit). I

Hi Jøran -
Yes, you are right.
I use the Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit in the english (US) version - and Vegas 9.0c 32 bit.
I have no problems with my new deshaker preset "ER 720p".
I can save it, change settings in it and use it in the same or other instances of Vegas. Also no problems when it comes to rendering.

Years ago I had a lot of troubles with the danish versions of Windows - well not with Windows itself, but the programs - and since then I always use the english (US) versions.

Perhaps I am missing something obvious but after I tell it what I want for pass one and then have it analyze, I cannot figure out how to proceed from there. I want to go on to pass two but I don't know how to get there via the interface.

If some kind soul can tell me how to complete the process after the analyzation process I would be greatful. Thanks.

Nevermind... I see that it is applied (I had to do half & half in the preview window). I assume it not only does pass1 but 2 as well.
