I just bought a new EVGA NVidia GTX 570 with 2.5 gig of RAM. And I wanted to share with you what difference it made for me. First, let me describe my computer. It is getting OLD. It's 3 1/2 years old. I run Windows 7 64bit with 4 gig of RAM on a Core 2 duo (3 gigahertz).
For my test, I used the Sony's demo file (PressReleaseProject.veg) in both Vegas Pro 10 and Vegas Pro 11.
Previewing the video gave me a mixed bag of results. With the setting on Preview (Full) in both versions of Vegas, version 11 was slightly better ini Pro 11 but Preview (Auto) in version 10 was a lot better than Preview (Auto) in version 11 and slightly better than Preview (Full) in 11. I must say that I wasn't too happy but not all that surprised by those results.
The big difference came when rendering to AVG (mp4) format: 1920 X 1080, 30 fps. The 1 minute and 3 seconds video took nearly 9 minutes to render in Vegas Pro 10. In Vegas Pro 11, it took 3 minutes and 10 seconds.
I do plan on getting a new mobo and cpu as well as increase the RAM this winter. But in the meantime, my GTX 570 is already making a big difference for me.
I'd also like to comment on another difference. My old video card was an ATI 5770 and I couldn't render an AVG file. Vegas Pro 11 kept giving me the same error message after a few seconds. This problem no longer exists now that I am using the GTX 570.
