New guy question.

Hello all,
I may have some crazy questions from time to time but i have read some of the forums and you'all seem very helpful so thanks in advance.

My question: I have a Sony High def video camera. So far i have been able to download my video from the camera to my PC. When i go to load any of the video in my Vegas 4.0 program, it is not recognized. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

I'm almost positive, support for HiDef came in after Vegas4.

Please check this one.

Do you know if the file format that the Sony camera has would then need some type of decoder OR should the latest version of Vegas take care of it.

Thanks again.

There are a lot of different types of camcorders out there (tape, hard drive, mini DVD, etc.).
Telling us the model # of yours would be a help.

I'm pretty sure Grazie hit the nail on the head. I think Vegas 6 was the first version with HDV support. But I can't explain how the video was moved from the camera onto the PC. Perhaps the camera is down-rezzing into DV which would then be supported in Vegas 4... Perhaps a 3rd party program was used to download the HDV from the camera. Many options here, we need more info to go further.

First of all, it is a HDD camera. It has a hard drive. Second, the software that i used to load the video from the camera is the software that came with the camera, so it's Sony's software that i used.

Vegas v4 will not handle MPEG2 nor AVCHD HD footage. You need to upgrade to Vegas Pro v8.

I think you import it as it will be mpeg if it is the consumer hard drive camera
I am thinking of. You may need at least Vegas version 7.

EDIT: Is it an SR100?

But what's the model number?
Timpolo wrote on 11/15/2007, 12:31 PM
DPT1000 i believe. I have the camera at home but i think that is the model number.

There's a DCR-PC1000 and a DCR-HC1000 but no DPT1000.
Let us know when you get home tonight and can confirm the #.

Yes, Vegas 6 was the first version to do HDV, and not well with m2t files on the timeline. Vegas 7 was fairly good and Vegas Pro 8 is a lot better. Vegas Movie Studio Platinum will handle HDV and Sony AVCHD should you not be needing the sophistication of Vegas Pro 8 (also a lot cheaper).

Seeing i have not done it yet and i need to purchase Vegas 8, do you transfer the video from camera to PC to Vegas the same way as older versions of Vegaas?

Since you haven't told us the model # of the camcorder yet, all I can say is "maybe".
