New installation of VEGAS Pro 18 will not open

Mark2020 wrote on 12/3/2020, 8:58 AM

New purchase and install of Vegas Pro 18.0 (build 373)  Upgrade from Vegas 13. Running on Windows 10 Pro, 4GB Ram, Intel i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz. I ran the installation. But when attempting to open the program, I get a Problem Report saying "VEGAS Pro has stopped working."  Also, "Unmanaged Exception (0xe0434352)" I have not been able to open the program. Tried reinstalling three times and I get the same error message.

4GB RAM does not meet the min spec.

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system.

OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)

Processor: 6th Generation Intel Core i5 (or AMD equivalent) or better. ...

Memory: 8 GB RAM.

Graphics: Supports NVIDIA, AMD/ATI or Intel GPU.

Storage: 1500 MB available space.

Sound Card: Multi-channel sound card recommended for surround sound editing.

andyrpsmith, Thank you for the response. I have upgraded my RAM from 4GB to 16GB. And I still get the same error. I have submitted a few requests for support using the online form, with no response. My system specs are:
Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)
Intel i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro 4GB P1000
500GB storage space

Mark, are you running the latest studio driver from Nvidia it would be 457.30? - very important. Also what is displayed when the crash happens ie is it during initialisation start-up?

Here is a FAQ on crashes during start-up:
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-vegas-pro-won-t-start-what-can-i-do--104784/

You could try a reset (hold control-shift while starting), and trying to run as an administrator.

First, thank you to Andy and Roger for your assistance. I updated the driver from 442.05 to 457.09. This was the latest driver for my Quadro P1000 graphics adapter. Also, tried the suggestion by Roger to run as administrator. No change. As the Vegas splash screen runs through its initialization process, it hangs on “Creating windows…” It’s been the same every time.

On another note, I still have Vegas 13 installed. In Sept. I started getting an error when selecting “Render As…” The message: “An error occurred while creating the media file. Exception thrown by method called”. I chased down several threads looking for a solution, but nothing worked. However, I did find an inefficient work-around. Then I upgraded to Vegas 18. Could the two problems be related?

I have not yet worked through all of the "faq-vegas-pro-won-t-start-what-can-i-do" tips. That's going to take a while.

Did you try the reset Vegas advice?

Failing that I'd start with the FAQ including disabling OFX temporarily. It might be getting stuck on a plug-in that worked in 13 but no longer in 18.

Mark, when V18 launches it first runs a hardware detection program to create the following file in the location below. 1). Is this file present? and 2) You can open it with notepad and you should be able to see detection of your CPU & GPU with information listed. Worth having a look to see if any errors are listed.

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\MAGIX\FileIO\1.0

File: So4HardwareDetectionOutput.xml

The other question is are you running both Intel GPU & Nvidia GPU together? (your CPU has

Intel® UHD Graphics 630)

Andy and Roger, Thanks again for your assistance. I was never able to get Vegas 18 to open. I was running out of time. And coming to the end of the 14-day window for getting a refund, I canceled the order. Perhaps I’ll try it again sometime next year.

Ah, that's too bad. Well, maybe come back when VP 19 is released and start with the trial. If you can't get it to open go straight to tech support.
