New Machine for 64 bit

Overheating during an overnight render toasted motherboard.
Machine built to Johnny Rofrano's specs a year or so ago.
Seems to have been a fan failure that did the cook job.
Anyway, likely cheaper to build a new computer?
So Johnny if you are around, do you have updated specs I can pass along to my IT guy as matching the motherboard to CPU is taking too much time and building a new machine won't be that much more in the end.
Also are there things I need to keep in mind for this built if I upgrade to 8.1 (64 bit)?
Stupid question maybe, but I'm not a computer guy.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

I'm still using that build and it's still a solid machine. My next build will be an 8-core using similar specs that jrazz did, but that's gonna be $1600USD for just the motherboard and processors (2 x Intel Xeon E5430 2.66 GHz QuadCore + Intel D5400XS Motherboard). Once you've had 4... you gotta go for 8. ;-)

My two cents -- This is my build from a year ago. Performing very well.
Runs cool - very quiet. Love the Raptor main drive. Worth it.
I now have 4 interior SATA drives installed and at times as many as 4
external USB 2.0 drives going -- all handled nicely -Totals about 2.5 terabytes
of space. I love to have my archived files close at hand.

Caution, Intel has announced 6 core Xeons in the near future. Quad cores should be getting discounted dramatically pretty soon. If you can sit tight for a few weeks. Another alternative is the AMD Phenoms, which are getting much better reviews when they are tested on systems with the AMD 7xx southbridge on the motherboard. Price points are dramatically low compared to Intel.
